Destination Truth
Destination Truth is a weekly SciFi Original Series that premiered on June 6, 2007. The series follows paranormal investigator Joshua Gates around the world to investigate claims of the supernatural, mainly in the field of cryptozoology. The first season of the show was created and produced by Mandt Bros. Productions. It has been renewed for a second season – during the 2007 special Ghost Hunters live Halloween investigation, Gates (who hosted the special) stated his show would return on March 5, 2008.
Episode format
Each episode is an hour long (including commercials) and features two investigations into the reports of Cryptids — bizarre, paranormal creatures that are said to exist only in myth and superstition. Gates leads a group of fellow investigators and cameramen in his treks to various locations around the world where he begins his investigation by interviewing witnesses, reviewing any evidence and researching local history. Later, Gates and his team go into the field in an attempt to capture first hand evidence of the existence of these legendary creatures. Any evidence gathered is then handed to experts for further analysis.

After disappointing ratings for Psychic at Large and Sci Fi Investigates, critical reviews of Destination Truth have been positive, gaining a 7.6 out of 10 on TV.com.Pat Dunn of Badpsychics.com has called the show “a refreshing change” and “the right show to follow [Sci Fi’s] hit paranormal investigation program Ghost Hunters” where he credits Josh Gate’s witty, adventurous attitude. The Hollywood Reporter says “…don’t watch this series…thinking you’ll see the solution to a riddle of the universe. Watch it because Gates has a great sense of humor, never takes himself too seriously…”

When you meet new people do you always introduce yourself as a medium?
Absolutely not. I always think that if I say that I am a medium, they are going to say, “No, honey, you’re a large!”
Is there a heaven?
Yes, the Other Side is heaven. I don’t usually use that term. I’m more likely to say paradise or just the Other Side. Until we go back it’s very hard for us to even imagine it, it’s more miraculous than anything we can make, believe, perform, or create on this side. I just don’t think the human mind has the capacity to grasp it, even though at our deepest core we do indeed remember it.
What do we look like when we die?
We no longer have any physical appearance. We’re pure energy. When I’m doing a reading, the dead do have ways of showing me some appearance that allows me to describe them to their loved one on this side, but to be honest, I don’t know how they do that.
Do the dead judge the living?
They don’t judge at all-we are the ones who make judgments, even thought it isn’t our place to do so. On the Other Side, there is no room for anything other than complete love, forgiveness, and joy. Judgment does not have a place there at all.
What is the difference between angels, spirits, souls and guardians?
These are really false distinctions. A soul is a spirit, is an angel, is a guardian. They are all just different terms for the same thing. Even if an angel (or soul or spirit) isn’t, right at that moment, pulling us out of the path of an oncoming car, it’s still a guardian, still looking out for us.
Can the dead talk with one another?
Yes, definitely. Not talk, exactly, language is irrelevant. They communicate by thought, telepathically. Thought is universal. If you are thinking “I’m hungry,’ that thought is the same no matter what language you speak. Over there, spirits talk in heavenly IM.
How do the dead get around?
It’s pretty much instantaneous in term of travel time. It’s as quick as thought. In fact, it is thought. They simply change their thoughts to another place or person, and there they are-right wher they want to be. The psychic autobahn!
Do the dead have sex on the Other Side?
Boy, you’ve got a one-track mind!
No! The are energy forms so they don’t have the same needs and desires of the flesh. They don’t make love, they don’t eat anything, and no, they don’t go to the bathroom. They’re in spirit form, not flesh. I know, you’re probably thinking, “No food? No sex? I’m not going!”
Can the dead kick soda cans and walk through walls like in the movie Ghost?
What? Are you joking? Of course. As for walls, spirits are energy forms. Nothing is solid to Them. And kicking a can is no big deal for a spirit. They can use their energy to do all sorts of things-move things around, knock things over. The can start a stopped clock or make the hands go faster, make lights flicker, turnt he water on. The never are trying to frighten us when They do these things. They just want to let us know that They’re there. On occasion, They’re trying to be funny, most mostly it’s just to say, “hello.”
How do children arrive here?
Babies are sent to this side from God, but they also have a lot of friends on the Other Side. As I understand it, during a pregnancy, the soul of the baby does not stay with the mother until the very last part of the third trimester. Until then, it goes back and forth, by means of the tunnel, the same one we travel through when we die, just kind of checking things out and getting used to its new situation. But then toward the end, it actually does spend more time with its new body and that’s when the mother will experience a lot more activity. Finally, at birth, it completely adheres to the body.
Do the dead attend their own funerals?
Sure they do. But it’s not to check on who shows up and who doesn’t or to be sure that nice things are said about them. They just want to be around family. One of the first things we are told when we cross is we’ll never be taken from those we love. Never. We will always have the ability to be with our loved ones, literally, in spirit. Any family gathering, they are there. It’s irrelevant that it’s a funeral. They are there only because they love to be with us.
What was your favorite celebrity reading?
I loved reading for Sarah Ferguson, the duchess of York, because then I got to talk with Diana. She was so bubbly and vibrant and she didn’t stop talking. Diana told me to tell Sarah that she was sorry they argued about “the borrowed shoes,” but she was laughing when she said it, so I knew it was something of an inside joke, not serious. And when I did relay that message, Sarah laughed too. She got it, but she wasn’t telling. I also loved reading for the cast of The Sopranos because they were my first celebrities and I loved the show.

Bunnyman Bridge
The Bunny Man Bridge
After the civil war Fairfax County, Virginia became more populated and eventually an insane asylum was built there. No one wanted to live near the asylum and because of the public outrage the institution was shut down.
The administration transferred the patients and in 1904 the process was completed. During the transfer, some of the patients escaped and hid in the surrounding woods and forest. These individuals were lost, delusional and dangerous. Most of them were found except Marcus Lawster and Douglas Griffen. The local authorities found a trail they believed belonged to them, littered with half eaten mutilated bunnies.
The trail led deep into the woods to a tunnel bridge crossing a wide creek. There they found Marcus hanging from the tunnel entrance. There was a note attached to his foot that said, “You’ll never find me no matter how hard you try! Signed, The Bunny Man.” That tunnel has been called Bunny Man Bridge ever since.
The legend says that if you walk all the way down the tunnel at around midnight the Bunny Man will grab you and hang you from the entrance of the bridge.
Strange deaths and phenomena has been connected with the Bunny Man Bridge. There was a young man from Clifton, Virginia who came upon the Bridge while traveling. Later, he killed his parents and dragged their bodies into the woods to hang them from the bridge and then killed himself. In 1943, three teenagers, two men and a young woman, were at the bunny man bridge for Halloween night. The three youths were found dead, hung from the bridge with their bodies slashed open. All with notes attached to their feet saying the same thing,” You’ll never catch the Bunny Man!”
In 2001, after hearing the tale, six local students and a guide searched the area. They found mutilated bunny parts during their search and left the forest after they heard noises and saw figures moving around in the woods.
